macbook pro delayed :(

I ordered a 17" MacBook Pro through RIT three weeks ago, and they gave us a ship date of 5/23. I hated that the wait was so long, but it coincided with my trip back to Rochester, so I figured it would work out. Today I got email from the RIT person who placed the order, telling me they'd pushed the ship date to June 5!!! Ugh! Ack! Oh, the humanity! :P

I'm not pleased. Not at all.

Update: A few days after I posted this, they pushed it out until June 13. So I cancelled the order. I'll still be getting one, but not until after I get back to RIT in August. In the meantime, I'm getting a Sony Vaio SZ240, which looks like a much better option for traveling. (I wish Apple would come out with a fast, light notebook option...)

I heard Apple is updating the Macs, so many people are in the same situation as you are. You might want to complain to get you mackbook faster or just to find out the reason for the delay.

Have you gotten your laptop yet? If so, how do you like it?

Apple doesn't have a fast, light notebook option? Since when? I really can't understand why people like the 17" laptops, because it's really like lugging around a portable desktop. The new 13" Macbook (non-pro) seems like a nice fast, light notebook to me.

The 13" MacBook is 5.2 pounds, vs 3.8 pounds for the Vaio SZ240. It also doesn't have a decent graphics card, which is an issue for some of the stuff I'm now running. I need a travel machine that can run everything I need, including games. I also need one that has a PC Card slot for my Verizon EVDO card.

I love my 17" for the screen real estate, particularly since I don't want a desktop machine (I move between home and office too frequently, and don't want to deal with the hassle of syncing, or of maintaining separate machines). But it's not good for travel, thus the desire for an ultralightweight that doesn't skimp on graphics and processing power.

I'm ridiculously happy with my Dell Latitude 410, though I know happy Vaio users, too. My Dell has oomph the x300 didn't have but is still sub-4-pounds. There is a world of difference between 3.8 and 5.2 pounds--particularly if you are vertically challenged. ;-)
