rit mt site license

I’m delighted to be able to announce that RIT has signed a site licensing deal with Six Apart for MT 3.x. That means that students, faculty, and staff have unlimited non-commercial licenses for the software. The license is person-centric rather than server-centric, so you don’t have to install it on Grace.

Down the road, I know we’re looking at putting in a central version of the software that allows individuals to create blogs based on their DCE ID.

Yay!

Does the non-commercial license means the same version that one can download by registering with mt? If this one is different then that where can we find on RIT's site?

What about when we graduate or leave RIT? Since it is a site license, do we (the students) retain the "effects" of the site-license even if we are no longer affiliated with RIT?

Aakash, yes, the it's all the same. The only difference is how you use it, not what you're using. It's an honor system.

Matthew, no, it doesn't follow you when you leave (any more than software you use in the workplace goes with you when you depart). When you leave RIT, you'll have to acquire your own license to stay 'legal.'

Congrats on the license! It sounds like the same deal we have at Stanford. I have a few contacts at other universities who are also interested in being able to provide a central installation of MT. If you can help get me in touch with the appropriate people at RIT, perhaps we can save some time by spreading the development effort around?

It's nice that RIT did that... I certainly hope that more professors will utilize a MT-based system to manage their classes (because MyCourses is failing to impress).
